Bear Cub Scout Tracking Sheet - Printable

A special thank you to Celeste Hunt from Pack 1781 in Washington, Utah in the Zion District of Utah National Parks Council for making this amazing tracking sheet and donating it to us.

Tracking, planning, and recognition are so important in Cub Scouts.  This new tracking sheet will help you be able to keep track of where each boy is at towards the Bear, Adventures, and Cyber Chip requirements.  I like to print this tracking sheet on cardstock, and I print one sheet for each boy to be kept in my leader binder next to their tracking sheet for their Religious Award, and any other awards we have worked on.  I keep a different tab for every boy with all the tracking sheets (Age Group & Religious Award).  Then I have complete information on each boy.  It helps to do it this way if you do one requirement one week and a different one other weeks.  Not every boy is there every week.  By doing this, I can always know where each boy is at, and it is all in one place.  I keep a roll, and next to the roll I write down what we did that week, and then every couple of weeks I update all the tracking sheets for every boy.  If the parents ever have questions, I always have a place to look back at on the roll, and I can always copy each tracking sheet to show them where their boy is.

Excel Advancement Spreadsheet to track the BEAR DEN in the New Cub Scout Program in Excel - Similar to the Cub Trax Spreadsheets

This Bear Advancement Excel Spreadsheet is a workbook of FREE spreadsheets developed by Todd M. Lynch, Cubmaster for Pack 444 from Elkton, MD, and in the DelMarVa Council.  This is for use by Cub Scouters to keep track of scouts advancement using the new requirements being implemented in 2017.  Many scouters have used the Cub Trax spreadsheets for the current system, these spreadsheets operate in a similar manner.  The spreadsheets have an instructions page with details on how to use them and how to contact Steve with questions.

A special thank you to Jeff Freeman from Pack 3673 in Bozeman, MT for updating these spreadsheets and donating them to us.

Bear Cub Scout Adventure Pocket Certificate to be given out at Pack Meeting to recognize completed adventures

The new Cub Scout program contains a series of “adventures” which Cub Scouts (individually and as part of their den) will experience while working on their badge of rank. Once a Cub Scout has completed the six core adventures—including one on “Duty to God” and one of his den’s choosing—he will have earned his badge of rank.

This pocket certificate is given to a Cub Scout in recognition of his completion of an “adventure.”

There are spaces on the card to enter the Scout's name, adventure completed, pack number, date he earned it, Den Leader and Cubmaster signatures. Use this to recognize the Cub Scouts during your monthly pack meeting.

This prints 8 pocket certificates, per page.  These "portrait" cards work well when the boys are saving their cards in the baseball card plastic holders.  Then they are facing the right way as boys look through their card collection.

Cub Scout Bear PRINTABLE Tracking and Organization Work Sheet for the New Program - Free - with Adventures and Cyber Chip and Award requirements to help Leaders and Parents

Cub Scout Paper Rockets shoot hundreds of feet in the air! Free Printable! Would be great to do as a Cub Scout Space Derby. Activity Days Paper Rockets

Paper Rockets are so fun to do with Cub Scouts!  Paper Rockets shoot hundreds of feet in the air and are easy for Cub Scouts to make and shoot themselves.

I love to use these to teach engineering to the Webelos.  When you make them with paper, the paper fins fall off pretty quickly.  When you make them with cardstock, they last longer, but the fins still have problems.  If you duct tape the back of the paper behind the fins before you roll the rocket, they are much stronger.  These kind of rockets spin around in circles as they fly.  When you don't cut the fins into the paper, but just add other cardstock fins, these rockets are the strongest of all.  I love to have them make each of them and then we talk about why each rocket performed and lasted how they did.  They love to spend the whole time fixing their rockets and adding to them.  I also like to have elmers glue, duct tape and hot glue to be used to glue things together.  This is also a learning experience on how things perform according to what is used to make them.  It is fun to see the boys add rocks right under the nose cone on the inside or duct taped to the outside to add weight.  It is all a science and engineering experiment so let them try different things!

How to Assemble the Rockets:
1.  Print these rockets on 24lb paper or cardstock.  I like cardstock because it makes it stronger and heavier.
2.  Cut 3 straight lines along the edge of the triangles at the bottom of the rocket.
3.  Roll paper around a PVC tube starting on the right side of this paper.
4.  Glue along the edge of the paper as you start, and at the end of the paper as you finish rolling.  At the end, use your finger to smear the glue in a wide stream so it does not all come out of the paper as you finish.
5.  Use a cloth to wipe across the rocket to take off the extra glue and also to hold it down.  Rub for at least 30 seconds while pushing hard.
6.  Insert a foam nose cone with hot glue, stuff it with tissue taped or hot glued in, or squish the top together and tape over the top.

** For the strongest and best rocket, don't cut the fins out before you roll it, but make other fins out of cardstock and glue those on.

Air Rocket Launcher   Here is a launcher you could make that would not need to be hooked up to an air compressor.  Click Here to see more about this launcher.

Mother's Day Letter or Card

For Activity Days yesterday, we filled out these letters to our mothers, decorated picture frames, and took pictures of the girls.  We are going to get the gift bags ready and give them to the girls on Sunday to give to their mother's on Mothers' Day.  I thought this would work well for the Cub Scouts also, so I thought I would share.

Cub Scout Bear PRINTABLE Tracking Work Sheet #2

Above is a tracking sheet to be able to keep track of where each boy is on requirements towards the Bear, Bear Arrow Points, Progress Towards Rank beads, Gold and Silver Arrow Points, and Cub Scout World Conservation Award.  There is also a spot to track the dates they served as Denner or Assistant Denner.  I like to print this tracking sheet on cardstock, and I print one for each boy to be kept in my leader binder next to their tracking sheet for Bear, Webelos, Belt Loops, and Religious Award.  I keep a different tab for every boy with all 3 tracking sheets (Age Group, Belt Loop, Religious Award).

PRINTABLE & EDITABLE Bear Achievements That Need To Be Done With The Family

I am looking for help to make new parent information sheets.  Anyone interested in helping me with this?  I just need help researching, but I will type up the new one.  Please?

Certain BEAR Cub Scout requirements need to be done at home with the family.  Here is a list to give parents of things they do at home with their Cub Scout.  There are certain things in the book that a Cub Scout Leader can not do with their scouts, and it gives parents a place to start when they want to help their son pass off some requirements.

Cub Scout Den Doodle Idea

Our Den Doodle ended up being a very positive thing to inspire the boys to wear their uniforms, do Cub Scout requirements at home with their parents, and be excited about Cub Scouting!  When I was a Den Leader, I had a lot of fun with this.  Thanks to all those who were interested in my Den Doodle and asked for more information from my post "Cub Scout Orientation for New Cub Scouts and Parents" that you can open in Word, edit, and print.  If this post does not answer the questions you have, please type below and ask more.  I will keep adding to the blog and posting more pictures as I need.  Just for fun, I'll tell you that the cute little 8 year old red head is my now 15 year old son.  Enjoy your boys while you have them with you in Cub Scouts!!

To make it:
  • Take an empty gallon can and spray paint it.
  • Spray paint any PVC pipe and connections you will need.
  • Use Plaster of Paris and put the pipe into the can.  Notice that there is only about 8" sticking out of the can and then there is an adaptor you can take apart.  That really helped as I transport it back and forth. (Notice there is a 2nd connector about 1/2 way up still in the blue.  That really helped to be able to break it down)
  • Drill super small holes in the pipe and insert screw cup holder hooks to hang the doodles on.

To use it:
  • When the boys come to scouts for the first time, have them write their name and date on the outside of the can.
  • I give them 2 leather ropes and a round metal key chain thing to tie the leather ropes onto.
  • I bought a bead alphabet at Walmart, and thin jute, and I would have the kids put their names on the thin jute and tie it to the round metal key chain.
  • For the 1st leather rope, as the boys would come every week, they would go to my plastic container and read through the requirements to see how many beads they earned for the week, they would count out the correct amount of beads, untie the knot at the bottom of the leather rope, slide their beads on, and retie the knot.
  • As the boys got 50 beads, they could trade them in for a feather to put at the top (I would attach it to the metal key chain with a safety pin).  Then they would start all over again earning more beads.
  • For the 2nd leather rope, I would have things like sticks or beads to go with the monthly theme.  I would also give them extra beads for things we did in the den - decorate for blue & gold, or other stuff.  I would also give them something when they earned their bobcat, wolf, bear, webelos, etc.  These were permanent on the 2nd rope, and kind of signified their scouting time.

This really helped the boys want to wear all of their cub scout uniform (shirt, hat, vest, neckerchief, slide), do things at home, being on time, bringing their book.  I had a little plastic container that would sit by the den doodle, and it had a list of the following in the lid.  The boys could receive beads for each of the following items...

                                                1.  Being on time.  Be in the room by 4:00.
                2.  Wearing their Cub Scout Shirt.
                3.  Bringing their Wolf Book
                4.  Wearing their Neckerchief
                5.  Wearing the (Neckerchief) Slide of the Month
                6.  Wearing the Red Vest
                7.  Cub Scout Den Hat
            8. Passing off something during the week at home with their parents.  (I would ask the parents to please write it on a post it note inside the front cover.  Then I would not have to look through every page every week of each boys book.)

I also started telling them at the end of the den session if they had earned an extra bead for being extra good, helping a lot, or something else.  It really helped to have something to bribe them with that was simple and easy.

Here is an additional idea from Claire Smith from San Diego, CA:  The second string could be a gold string that gets fancier beads that represent Bobcat, Required beltloop, Elective beltloop, Wolf, and other special events (a hike, a special pack game, participation in community service, or doing something else that is memorable and noteworthy. This string becomes a history of his time in the Den, and when he bridges, I make a special totem with a blue & gold wooden fleur-de-lis at the top (with Pack #, Den Leader names etc) that can hang on the wall (a pop-top ring glued to the back) for him to keep, and it is presented at a pack meeting as he bridges to the Bear Den.
