Can LDS Cub Scouts go Camping?

Thanks to Annaleis Smith from the Utah National Parks Council who shared this document with us... Can LDS Cub Scouts go Camping?  The LDS church policy found in the Scouting Handbook, section 6.1 reads "... No Scout-sponsored overnight camping should be planned for boys under age 11..." Combine that with the statement from the BSA below and we can see that LDS Cub Scouts CAN complete all these requirements.  They have the option of completing these requirements on a family campout (possibly even during a Stake/Ward Campout or a Father's and sons campout if planned for and with the Bishop's approval) or during a daylong activity - lots of options there.  You can still plan, prepare, put up tents, cook outdoors, have a campfire program, have lots of fun, but sleep in your own beds.  So YES - Even the LDS Cub Scouts can and should still participate in all the fun and adventure associated with camping!

Campfire Neckerchief Slides for Cub Scouts

We were asked by Alpine District to store their files on our website since they do not have access to the place their files were stored anymore.  Here you go!

We made some new neckerchief slides at Roundtable last night.  I love neckerchief slides!  I think they are so fun to wear.  Tonight we made some campfires to show what you could do for a campfire program or any outdoor event.  Campfires seem to signify all things outdoors to everyone!  Nothing better than a camp fire to make you think of the great outdoors.

If you are interested, I have made it easy for you to reproduce.  Just print out this PDF on cardstock, cut out 3 different size flames (I even gave you an extra in case you messed up).

Using the back side of the template (so you won't see the pen marks), trace it onto fun foam.

Cut out the fire pieces, turn them over (so you don't see the pen marks), and hot glue them together.  I found these small craft sticks at Hobby Lobby.  They are shorter than regular popsicle sticks, and worked quite well.

For the backs, I like to use 1/2" PVC pipe.  It works great!

Then, you can use whatever you want to decorate it with.  I tried it with glitter glue, and sharpie markers, but I think I might like the plain ones the best.  Good luck!

Camping in In-Tents Cub Scout Neckerchief Slide with Tent Clip Art

Here is a fun idea for a neckerchief slide for tents.  I thought the boys would enjoy it. It is easy to make using a glass marble. You can print them by clicking below.
